Our 17th Year of Celebrating Arts and Photography
PLANS FOR WAA 2020 CONTINUE
This year we've looked at restructuring WAA after the June event was cancelled and we lost our two important managers, Robyn resigned from the Board and Paula was already managing the load of many people outside our fantastic volunteer team. We needed to rethink how we could continue to work with the awards and make them more beneficial for everyone involved. Review and Planning was underway when Lockdown began and it was natural for Vivienne to continue planning towards 2021 and she commenced designing and developing the ecommerce site with plans for Virtual Awards as contingency.
We continue with this planning and development, our intention is to showcase and support local community arts and prosperity beyond the amazing events and programs. We've started from hub in Raetihi—an area worthy of social and creative economic recognition. But plans and management take time. In Lockdown we've been a little restricted and we're uncertain how we will proceed under Level 2 Lockdown or if we will even be in other levels of restriction if we move ahead with the events held in community.
For these reasons we may still hold the event but will need to review again the dates etc. to hold it.

Waimarino Art Awards Expo
Founded in 1997 by our longest standing member and acclaimed artist Dot Barnes, we ran as the Ohakune Art Awards until 1998 when we re-branded under Waimarino—meaning "Still Waters" in Maori. In 2018 we went National, targeting regional NZ.
Our mission is to enable artists and photographers of all ages and skill to showcase their creativity, gain experience, be recognized and have a chance to compete for prizes awarded by our expert judges.
WAA gives locals, visitors and those passionate about creative arts and culture an opportunity to experience, enjoy and even purchase artistic works by our creative talent in New Zealand. Many of our participants are already recognised artists; many more artworks will be valuable assets in the future.
Our exhibition and new online outlet for the sale of affordable, local and varied works of Art, benefits creators, curators and collectors of Fine Arts and Creativity Products.
We collaborate with organisations and stakeholders to facilitate creativity projects that build community relationships, enhance our towns, environment and wellness in the lives of our people.

Waimarino Art Awards is currently managed and partner sponsored by Tobassa Limited Trading as Conscious Flow Social Enterprise. Tobassa has approximately 25 years of Arts, Social Development, Cultural Relationships and relevant managerial expertise. The Awards and events are funded by grants, sponsorship and revenue gained from Award activities. Since 2015 WAA has received critical funding grants managed by Raetihi Promotions Charitable Trust—registered in New Zealand.
